EmeriCon - Intelligence in Process
WebSphere MQ Workflow Migration

Migrating a WebSphere MQ Workflow solution to WebSphere Process Server is not just a matter of conversion tooling.

Outside of simple tooling considerations, typical migration approaches rarely extend beyond process models, service compatibility concerns, and User Interface client conversion.

EmeriCon provides more realistic and practical approaches for migrations to WebSphere Process Server. Our scope of consideration covers all fundamental aspects of WebSphere MQ Workflow-based solutions. Our migration method embodies our core experience in BPM design and implementation for both products sets...
EmeriCon Migration Checklist for WebSphere MQ Workflow Solutions
Migration feasibility assessment:
- Evaluation of feasibility, considering impacts of key differences between source and target BPM platforms which may affect the conversion of key solution features
Migration/transition strategy:
- Gradual solution transition vs. clean solution cutover
- User Interface client migration - allows for one user interface with two "federated" systems (the old and the new) working transparently in parallel until the sunset of the old system is complete
- In-flight process instances migration
Process Models:
- Process models conversion and adaptation (takes advantage of new BPEL features not available under WebSphere MQ Workflow such as external event handling, exception and compensation handling, process bundling, etc...)
Runtime execution:
- Service migration (from UPES to Web Services or other SCA-based services)
- Process initiation and control mechanism (termination, suspension, resumption)
- Solution business management (work coordination/control/prioritization)
- Solution "maintenance" components and resources
Monitoring and audit:
- Process reporting, monitoring, auditing
- Functional solution dependencies based on audit
Staffing management:
- Staffing structure, directory, activity staffing requirements, authentication mechanism
Performance:
- Performance evaluation and recommendation given current and new expected solution volumes
